A fan of nature in Orland Park, Illinois

I am a big nature person.

I really like to go on hikes, take my camera and photograph animals and vegetation.

When my husband moved us to Orland Park I was concerned I would lose my hobby. The Orland Grasslands are just beautiful though. There are tons of footpaths to check out the area. There are so many different types of habitats to photograph there like oak savanna, shrubland, wetland, woodland, open ponds and prairie. I have gotten some amazing shots since the weather in my area is very diverse. I can get photographs of thick snow and ice and a few months later get blooming flowers and sunshine. There are quite a few animals that I have photographed too. There are nearly 100 bird species that have been reported in my area and I am making it my mission to photograph as many as possible. There are also adorable butterflies, grasshoppers, dragonflies and mammals like coyotes for me to see as well. I am happy as a clam in my area. I get gorgeous photos, great hiking and the area is safe and quiet. My husband and I have a nice little house surrounded by woods. The cold isn’t bad when you have good heating too. We have heated flooring all throughout the house and it makes it nice. I can sip hot cocoa while watching the snowfall and feel totally comfortable in my home. Life has been good. In the summertime the heat isn’t so bad that I need to crank the air conditioner. Just a gentle cool breeze occasionally does it.
