I worried whether I was really following the law.

When I was growing up, my parents always taught me to follow the laws. He said that laws were made to protect people. I knew he was right, but I was young and willing to do whatever my friends asked me to do. We weren’t a gang, but we were a gang of young people with no fear. Even though we weren’t 21 yet, my friends and I were already using marijuana. In Los Angeles, California, where we live, laws say you must be 21 in order to use marijuana. The only way to get around this marijuana law, would be if you had a medical illness or condition, that would allow your parents to be your caretaker and purchase marijuana for you. None of my friends nor I, had medical conditions that allowed us to get marijuana. Other than going on the streets and purchasing marijuana, we had no other way to purchase marijuana. Since we were still minors, we were constantly watching our backs to make sure no one was going to Radice out about her marijuana use. Then, one day, my father caught us. Instead of being a cool dad, he called the police. Dad wanted to teach us a lesson. From that moment on, I was worried whether I was really following the law. I waited till I was 21 to use marijuana, and I never used it in public. Living in Los Angeles, California meant that I had a great place to grow up, and I knew there laws were there to protect everyone. All that meant, and said I had to wait a couple of years to legally purchase my recreational marijuana.
