I’ve been toiling a lot of overtime shifts, because our partner is pregnant… I knew that he was going to have the baby soon.
I planned to take some time off when the baby was born.
I had a week of paid holiday, however I still took some overtime shifts in the weeks leading up to the birth of our son, my child was supposed to be born on September the 15th, but he came really early in July on a sizzling and humid day. I was toiling in Phoenix on an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C commercial repair. I was on the roof in 110° heat when our partner went into labor. I did not hear the iPhone ring. My partner tried to call myself and others three times, but he called once at 10:00 a.m. and I did not hear the iPhone ring. She called again at 11:00 and 11:15. She finally called our boss to track myself and others down at noon, and by then, he was already severely dilated and on his way to the hospital. I was getting ready to chop for dinner when our boss showed up on the job place in downtown Phoenix. I knew something was wrong when I saw his face and I immediately thought about our partner. I looked at our iPhone and I saw the missed calls. I started to freak out and have an anxiety attack. My boss calmed myself and others down and drove myself and others to the hospital. He told myself and others not to worry about the rest of the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C repairs. He was going to get someone to handle the rest of the labor and he told myself and others to stay at the hospital with our partner.
