Some sites change, others evolve and grow, however i say this with all due reverence, after returning home to our old hometown after being away for several years, then although I was born and raised here ,once I graduated school I wanted to get as far away as I could.

My best friend Sarah and I recently went on a quick trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The two of us wanted somewhere that really had everything. In Albuquerque there are hiking trails, cute hotels, neat bars, cannabis dispensaries and all sorts of museums. Basically anything you want, this little city has it. Sarah asked me if I wanted to see the Albuquerque Isotopes while we were there. I didn’t even look up what it was. An isotope is a science thing, I remembered that from school. I figured she wanted to do some boring science museum thing and told her I could do it. I didn’t realize that it was actually the name of the local baseball team. I had never been to a baseball event in my entire life. It was actually kind of cool seeing the locals lose it over a game. Sarah and I tried the Isotope’s Slammin’ Amber which was a local beer that everyone was drinking at the game. I got some nuts and Sarah got popcorn. The two of us watched the game where we had no clue on the rules and the players names. It was still fun watching something everyone lose their minds over stuff. It also was neat to say I had been to a baseball game. The local team won which was doubly fun as well. My friend and I got a bit tipsy that night and both agreed it was the best night of the whole trip. I might even go to another baseball game in a different state. It was so fun.

Don’t get this confused with Arizona, I am talking about New Mexico. I can bike a very long distance on all sorts of terrain when I do the open loop of Bear Canyon. It is such a good workout for me and I am outside in the sunshine. I love that I can see locals and tourists alike walking around. I like that I can just stop and appreciate nature mid work-out if I feel like it.

Also, I do give a painting class every Tuesday at 3 pm and all the money goes back into the center. A lot of the local artists will be giving sewing classes, crafts, music lessons, you name it. It is important to keep our community going. Not only is encouraging art a good thing, but having a safe space for kids. There are kids that go to Off Center that might not have the best homelife, but here at the studio, they feel safe. Off Center also has been known to draw in tourists and help us raise money. Most people come to New Mexico looking for recreational marijuana. We have tons of dispensaries here. However, travelers soon find our state has a lot more to offer.
