In Lowell, MA you can’t get by without a proper working heating system.

Our winter season comes early and just doesn’t let up for months on end.

I ended up owning three separate heating systems. I have a two story house and the heat just can’t get everywhere since I live in an older home. There is no ductwork so I have to own stand alone heaters. I have a ventless gas heater in the kitchen, a gas fireplace in the living room, and a Moore heater upstairs. It is quite expensive during the cold season to run all three heaters. It is important to keep them all in good condition though. When the power goes out, only that upstairs heater is the one working. The rest of the house is freezing cold. It is horrible. I make sure to schedule heating service in Lowell, MA right in the fall season. I have all three of the heaters checked over for dust, rust and corrosion. It is imperative not to experience an unexpected breakdown during our winter season. I don’t want the kitchen heater to overheat due to it being dirty. I don’t want my living room fireplace to have a starter concern. I don’t want the upstairs heater to refuse to heat the house. I just need to invest early in the season and I know I am good for the rest of the year. My husband was a music major in school.

He did singing, flute, trumpet, and theater.

He really enjoyed it and at one point in his life thought he was going to be a music teacher. He then changed courses and went into finances. It suits him better but he still has a soft spot for music. For his birthday I try to do something musical for him. We have gone to concerts all over the United States. Recently I remembered that I had a trip to Elgin, Illinois for work. Rather than burn a birthday gift, I thought I would just do a nice surprise for her. I convinced my husband to join me on my trip to Elgin. I then got tickets for the Elgin symphony orchestra. He loves orchestra music and they were doing holiday songs. I love getting into the Christmas spirit. It was the perfect blend of something we both enjoy. I was really glad that I did the gesture and didn’t tell him about it until that day. My husband was very excited to listen to good orchestra music. We both liked it so much that we agreed we should see a symphony more than once in a blue moon. The area of Elgin, Illinois actually offered us a lot to do on my work trip. I wouldn’t be opposed to going there again. It was a lovely experience. There are museums, shops, parks, and all sorts of other fun things for couples and families alike.

A friend of mine from college moved back home to Texas.

It was sad since I knew I wouldn’t be able to travel to Texas a lot.

I live clear across the country and I didn’t have a ton of money for travel. The two of us kept in touch though. We skyped, called, and texted a bunch. Sometimes she would come up to my state and hang out. When she got engaged and asked me to be in the wedding party, I knew I had to step up. I hadn’t been a very good friend travel wise. So for her wedding, I was there for all the events. I flew to Fort Worth, Texas for a wedding shower, bachelorette weekend, and the actual wedding. It meant the world to my friend. I have to say, I really did enjoy Fort Worth, Texas. The heat is incredible there. It is so hot and wet. I couldn’t get by with a t-shirt. I needed shorts and a tank top the entire time. Thankfully that whole area understands how to combat the heat. I stayed in a cute little boutique hotel that had a great working air conditioner. I would make sure to put my bed right under the AC vent and I slept like a dream. All the wedding events were kept indoors due to being in the summer. I am used to summer weddings being outside and more money. For Fort Worth, you are getting a discount being married in the high heat.

I am going to plan a hike and a picnic for us

I have lived in Sioux Falls, SD all my life and I have never gone mini golfing. I know it’s weird , right? Well anyway I met this guy online that I made a connection with. We decided to meet in person and have a first date together. He suggested space golf. I thought maybe it was a typo or something but then I looked it up. If you look up things to do in Sioux Falls, SD, golf is something that comes up. It is a year around miniature golf course that uses ultraviolet lights. It looked pretty cool and I was willing to give it a try. Mini golfing for a first date was a very odd experience. The guy was obviously someone who golfs all the time and was excellent. I had never golfed before. I was terrible. My ball went all over the place and I had trouble finding it in the dark. The actual space golf place was pretty and it was a kooky fun first date. However, I don’t know if it would be a must in Sioux Falls for me. I am more of a biker or hiker than a golfer. Well it was a decent end result. We golfed, got dinner and we will get a second date. I pushed to decide what we do for date two. I am going to plan a hike and a picnic for us. I am hopeful that he is the type of person that is game for anything. It is possible that he will not like hiking as much as I hated mini golfing.

This will be our ten years. The two of us agree we need to do something big. I think rather than stay home, we should get a hotel for a few nights. I found that St. Petersburg is a really nice day trip for us. There are plenty of things to do in St. Petersburg. There is the beach, bars, parks, and shopping. I really just want to get a nice hotel, eat a good dinner, and see a movie. Two nights in a hotel should do the trick too. I think it will be so relaxing to have a beachfront hotel and to kick back for our ten years. Sadly the time of year that we got together isn’t a warm one. Our anniversary is in November. So the St. Petersburg weather is around 70 degrees usually. That is way too cold to enjoy the ocean waves. It also might be too cold for the heated hotel pool. I don’t really care though. I don’t mind just looking at the water and relaxing. I also don’t mind enjoying home heating rather than AC. For me, the St. Petersburg weather is amazing no matter what. Winter or summer season I would take a trip to the beach there. So I am pushing my husband to book the beachfront hotel and we will make it work.

I am really fortunate to live in Lakeland Florida.

When I was looking for places to live in Florida I was overwhelmed by the options.

The further south you go, the hotter it gets. I didn’t want to be in Fort Myers where the majority of the population is old. I also didn’t want to be super north in Jacksonville. It gets a lot of hurricane damage and isn’t what I was looking for as far as beautiful sights. Lakeland Florida is the best of everything. I get great weather, beautiful sights, and plenty to do. Another pro of Lakeland FL is the proximity to airports. Tampa airport is only 45 minutes away and Orlando airport is around an hour. That means anytime I want to travel somewhere, I can shop around for the best prices. I typically can get a direct flight out of Orlando, no matter where I am going. Sometimes Tampa offers a better deal though. So it is the best of both worlds again. I wouldn’t move for anything. My place of work treats me well, I have plenty to do for entertainment, and I have a lovely home. I really enjoy the weather. I can get by in my household with a standard heat pump system. It offers both heating and cooling power for a lower cost since it uses existing heat energy. It takes the heat from outside and blows it inside for a heating effect and the reverse for cooling. I am all set no matter what the temperature is outdoors.

My place of work had me moving to Springfield Missouri.

At first I wasn’t too keen on the idea of being in Missouri.

I had also never heard of Springfield. But I got a nice pay bump and I am not close with my family. So why not move somewhere for more money. Now that I live in Springfield, I wouldn’t move again. I really like hte area. When I first moved it was a little daunting. It wasn’t as big of a city as I was used to. The weather was a little colder than what I was familiar with. What is great is that there are a ton of online resources for things to do in Springfield, MO. I found a whole list of fun hobbies that you could get started in. I started trying out learning a new language. Missouri State University offers a language program. You can learn any language and start as a beginner. I had always wanted to be fluent in German. So I started out taking a few classes and then I progressed through the ranks. I now have a group of friends that I attend class with after work. We then get something to eat after our class and hang out together on the weekends. We spend a lot of time together and get in touch during community events. I have never had such a tight knit community vibe breore. I think that is unique to the Springfield, MO area. I love my new state and city.

During the playoff season it isn’t hard to get tickets either.

My kids are starting to get into hockey. In Florida it isn’t really the sport that kids do. The weather is hot basically all year around. So not many kids are thinking about winter sports. They really should though. Florida has two professional hockey teams, the Panthers and the Tampa Bay lightning. They both do really well in the Stanley cup playoffs. So why aren’t more kids playing? I am really lucky that I live in Jacksonville Florida. So my boys have many ice rinks to choose from. I started them all out in the learn to skate program. Now my boys each have their own hockey team. I have a forward, defensemen, and a goalie living in my household. My goal is that the boys stick with it all throughout school. That way they have the opportunity to play it in college. I recognize they aren’t professional level good, but they do quite well. In Florida the training programs aren’t really there either. But we do the best we can. I enjoy the fact that Tampa isn’t that far. If we want to see a professional game, it is quite an easy trip for the boys. During the playoff season it isn’t hard to get tickets either. I found it really weird when I first moved down south. In the north, you can’t get a ticket ever. In the south, I can get a playoff ticket quite cheap for the entertainment value. We are a hockey family through and through.

My boyfriend grew up in the south and has lived there his whole life. He had never experienced temperatures lower than 20 degrees and had never seen snow, ice and severe whildchill. I figured he was lucky. He isn’t not missing much. Well he got it in his head that he wanted to see a white Christmas. My parents always push me to come home for the holiday season. In South Bend IN, the winter season is downright brutal in the chill and the amount of snow. I usually refuse due to the cost of flight and what I am getting once I arrive. But, for my boyfriend’s sake, I decided to make the trip to Indiana in the winter season. I felt like it was crazy to do. My boyfriend was not at all prepared for the cold. He had his stylish winter coat and wore jeans and rainboots. Quickly it became clear he needed a thicker coat, real boots, a hat, scarf, and gloves. He was freezing the entire time. Also, the Indiana cold isn’t that brutal if you live there all the time. My parents had their heating equipment on, but they weren’t exactly running it on high. My boyfriend required a space heater in our guest room and complained about the chill the whole time. Once he settled in he thought he could play in the snow like the movies. He then realized the snow is actually really wet and cold. It was a huge letdown for him. I did give him a white Christmas though.

I used to live way down south where it was hot 99% of the time.

It was sort of awful to be honest.

I got where I was sick of always feeling like it was summertime. I didn’t want to wear shorts, a tank, and sandals anymore. I also hated being constantly sweating and feeling sluggish. My home air conditioning equipment went full blast most of the year. I missed wearing pants and bundling up in blankets. I looked around the United States for the perfect state for me. I needed someplace I could transfer for work and that would have four seasons for me to experience. I didn’t need to have a white Christmas or 90 degree summer days, but I wanted spots of hot and cold. That is how I landed in Alabama. Most of the time the AL weather is nice and toasty. When the winter season comes, it does get cold, but it rarely drops below freezing. There are four seasons and the weather is quite nice no matter what. I stuck to the idea of living in Tuscaloosa. It wasn’t for the fun name either, I just liked the area. Everyone was really friendly and the sights were beautiful. I also was able to obtain work quite easily. I even managed to snag myself a nice plot of land in Tuscaloosa for a very good deal. I am really glad that I no longer live down south. I like that I can rotate my summer and winter clothing for once. I actually do need to own a jacket.
