The airport in Denver, Colorado is the size of a small city. It has everything a person on the go could possibly need. It also has great amenities, such as a terrific art gallery and a couple of different full-service spas. It’s never any fun to hang around an airport, but at least in Denver there are a lot of things to look at. The last time I was there my 2 hour layover turned into a 6 hour layover, which then turned into an overnight stay. I didn’t want to spend the next 12 hours in the airport, so I hailed a cab and decided to check out the city of Denver. For years I had read the articles and blogs about the amazing legal cannabis they have in Denver, so why not use this time to check it out? Instead of calling a Denver cab company I reached out through Uber with a very special request. I didn’t mind paying the cost, but I wanted an all-night tour of Denver and the surrounding areas. I wanted a driver who would take me to a cannabis dispensary, and then show me the sights while I rode around stoned. I found a driver named Dale, who had lived in Denver all his life and knew it like the back of his hand. Dale was also a seasoned cannabis user, and knew all the best dispensaries the city had to offer. That one night in Denver, in the back of Dale’s sedan, was 1 of the high points of my life.
I had a killer time in Philadelphia
If the airport shuts down, all flights are canceled, and you are trapped in a city you’ve never been before, pray that it’s Philadelphia.
It happened to me not long ago, and I wound up having a great time during a chaotic and unexpected delay.
I was on my way up to see some friends in Canada. This was a trip I had been planning for months, so to find out the flight was canceled and I was stuck in the airport was a crushing blow to my morale. However, there was simply no way to get out of Philadelphia for at least 24 hours, so I had no choice but to make the best of it. I was alone, I had nowhere to go and nowhere to stay, but on the other hand I was in Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love and one of the most historic cities on the planet! It turned out that spending 24 hours wandering around Philadelphia was a lot more fun than predicted. Especially when I walked by a cannabis dispensary and realized that in Philadelphia I didn’t need to have a medical prescription. In Philly I could walk in off the street, present any valid ID card, and help myself to any kind of cannabis I wanted. With a few cannabis edibles in my tummy, the streets of downtown Philadelphia were even more amusing than before! Eventually I made my way back to the Philadelphia airport, and continued my journey to the great white north, but for 24 I had a killer time in Philly.
My husband is an HVAC technician in Buffalo NY
I am a firm believer that you need to have friends in all the right places.
For instance, if I need my car fixed, my husband has a friend who is a mechanic that takes care of our cars.
In addition, if I get pulled over for speeding which happens once in a while, my husband has a cousin who is a captain at the police department. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t take advantage of the system, but knowing someone at the police station does come in handy. My husband is also good friends with someone who is a handyman so if there is something in our home that he can’t fix, he can always call his friend to help him with it. My husband is an HVAC technician, so whenever his friends and family need HVAC work done, he does it for them. So, he’s the technician for our mechanic as well as for his cousin who is the Captain of the police department. And if the handyman ever has a major HVAC issue that he can’t fix himself, he always calls my husband to help with it. My husband works a lot of hours as an HVAC technician. In fact, during busy season, he could work up to 16 hours per day. However, when he isn’t working and providing service for his regular customers, he’s always helping his friends, family and even our neighbors with any HVAC problems that they might have. It’s good to have friends in the right places and I am glad that my husband and his friends can all help each other out.
Our European descendants found Hillsboro, OR.
My mother was big into genealogy.
She tried to trace our family tree back to the Egyptians one time, and tried to tell me we were directly related to Cleopatra, but I wasn’t having any of it.
She then told me our European descendants founded Hillsboro, OR in the early 1800s, according to what she had found online. They loved the mild winters and warm summers which made Oregon a rich farming area. I looked at her one day as she was talking about our rich history, and asked her why we looked more like the Indians that once inhabited the Hillsboro, OR area? She stumbled and said that was just my dad’s side of the family. I reminded her how the Kalapuyans once lived in this area even before the Europeans arrived, but she poo-pooed that. The Kalapuyans were still a part of the Grand Ronde, even though many intermarried with other tribes, and some intermarried with the Europeans. She thought this proved that the Europeans were the most important. Without the Kalapuyans, there would be no dad, and no me, but mom completely ignored that information. She was just happy her European descendants loved the climate in this area, and decided to stay. Her family came to Hillsboro, OR in the early 1900s and she had no reason to ever want to move anywhere else. I thanked her for making that decision. I enjoyed living in Hillsboro, OR, and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else, regardless of who my distant family was or wasn’t. I liked the weather we had in this area.
My husband’s favorite place was Patuxent Brewing Company.
I don’t know of many people who go visit family on their honeymoon, but my husband and I did just that.
We met in college, where he was staying at the dorms and I was living with my parents.
By the third year, we had fallen in love. He wanted to take me home to get to know his parents, but I was still taking classes through the summer. He promised his family we would come to Waldorf, MD for our honeymoon. I wanted to see Baltimore, which wasn’t too far from his family home of Waldorf, MD. While in Waldorf, MD, my husband wanted to go to Patuxent Brewing Company. He said his father used to work there, and he had a lot of wonderful memories of his father, who had passed away right before we got married. My husband asked if I wanted to go along, but I wanted to stay home with his mom and sisters. He and his brother headed out while we sat home. I loved his family, and it was nice spending the summer with them. It wasn’t exactly a honeymoon, but we were enjoying ourselves. There were several rainy days that kept us all inside, but the warmth of the summer was nice. When we went to Baltimore, the entire family joined us, but we stayed overnight when they went home. We planned on doing some sightseeing, but it was pouring and cold. We stayed in the hotel all day and night, relaxing in the pleasant heat of their HVAC. I think we’ll be returning to Waldorf, MD, often.

I’m building a new house south of The Villages
After that I will be ready for the heating and cooling equipment.
I decided to build a brand new house and the house is just south of The Villages. The Villages is an active adult retirement community, and I am only in my 40s. I found a place that is in Fruitland park, just below The Villages. I got a great deal on the land and I decided to build a new construction house there. There aren’t a lot of HVAC contractors in Fruitland park, so I contacted a few places in The Villages. I was surprised by the number of HVAC contractors in The Villages. A lot of the places had very reasonable prices and installation fees. I found plenty of contractors in The Villages that were willing to help with the HVAC installation part of the process for a reasonable fee. Last weekend the contractor came down and spent half of the day measuring for ductwork. I thought about installing a ductless mini split system, but I decided to go with a traditional HVAC system with ductwork. Next week the contractor is going to come back and spend the weekend installing all of the ductwork. After that I will be ready for the heating and cooling equipment. I have about 2 more months of work before I will be able to move into the house. I don’t want to go to the new property until it is 100% ready. I want to be able to move all of my furniture, clothes, and personal items at the same time. I don’t want to pay a moving company two times.
I always take my son to indoor attractions with air conditioning
My son Jayden is obsessed with cars and motorcycles, so for his birthday, I took him to the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum.
The museum is located in the greater Birmingham area, which is about 20 minutes from where we live. I thought this would be a great way to celebrate his birthday because the museum has over 1,000 vintage motorcycles as well as cars on display. It’s also connected to a track where we watched a live race. I personally love the museum because it kept Jayden occupied for 3 or 4 hours. It would be a great spot to take him during the Summer when the weather is hot outside. He loves going to playgrounds, but the heat is becoming too much for me. So, I have been finding more indoor playgrounds and attractions that have climate control, so that I can be comfortable. Jayden doesn’t mind not having air conditioning while he’s having fun. Air conditioning is the last thing that’s on his mind. But I need to have A/C in the Summer especially on those days when the temperature is in the 90s. And over the last few years, Birmingham has been getting really hot Summers. So, now instead of spending most of the time in outdoor playgrounds, I take Jayden to indoor places that have air conditioning. They include libraries, indoor adventure parks and playgrounds, and now I can add the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum to the list. Anyway, Jayden had a blast at the museum, and I am sure he can’t wait to go back. And as long as it is air conditioned, it will be a place that we frequent.
New Indiana house gets geothermal heat pump
I’m pleased to report that the new geothermal heat pump did a great job when it came to heating our Indiana home.
I wasn’t so sure that this was going to be the case.
There are people where we live who go with a traditional heat pump for both heating and cooling. But I’ve often heard from those folks that when it gets really cold, their homes aren’t exactly cozy. I grew up with an oil furnace in the basement that was the size of a car. However, that thing kept us so warm no matter how cold it got. So the house that my wife and I raised our family in came with a gas furnace. That’s because we replaced all the heating and cooling equipment when we bought the place. That gas furnace was great when it came to heating but not so great when it came to paying for all that heating. Still, there was never a night or day where I wasn’t plenty warm inside the house during our Winter. When we built this house, my wife had done a lot of research on the geothermal heat pump. We figure this will be our home for the duration as we’re not going anywhere once we retire in 15 years. The geo heat pump was a bit more money but we are going to save so much money in heating and cooling costs. Still, I was worried that it wouldn’t be warm enough with the radiant floor heating from the geo heat pump. Not only was it wonderfully cozy and toasty in our Evansville IN home the entire Winter, I’m still in shock when it comes to the heating costs. I think we are saving almost half what we paid with the gas furnace.
A heat pump won’t work in my area
When my central HVAC system up and quit on me I did some research.
I wanted both heating and cooling.
I wanted something powerful, energy efficient and that would last a long time. In my research I found a heat pump. You get both heating and cooling in one single unit. It moves heat energy so it is incredibly efficient. Since it is ductless it can be used for zone control. I was so excited to have this system. I called my local Glenview HVAC dealer right away to get my heat pump installation. The HVAC worker informed me that they don’t sell heat pumps. Also, I didn’t actually want a heat pump in my home. He then explained that the heat pump needs existing heat in the air in order to function in the winter. If the temperatures drop below freezing, the heat pump is worthless. I was extremely bummed to hear that Illinois gets too cold in the winter that I couldn’t have a heat pump. The HVAC worker did point me in the right direction though. He told me to look at dual fuel systems. This combines a heat pump and a gas furnace. So when the Glenview winters get severely cold, the gas heater will operate. When it gets a little warmer, the heat pump is tagged in. It changes from gas to electric based. I then would have the energy smart heat pump as my AC device. I now just need to find a HVAC company that will install dual fuel systems.
