The last time we were there was during summer, and my dad had to keep the air conditioning running in his home.

I grew up in Minneapolis, MN, and lived there for the first 20 years of my life. To be honest, I know that city like the back of my hand. My dad was working as a plumber during those days, and he would later run his own business. I’d ride with him to the jobs when I wasn’t in school or during summer vacations. Later, while in highschool, I got a job at a popular mall downtown, and began planning for my future. I wanted to become an actor, so I chose to study drama and performance art in the east coast. Every now and then I’d come back home to be with my folks, and enjoy the place where I grew up. Now, as an adult, I have a family that consists of a wife and 2 kids. Whenever we can, we fly to Minneapolis to visit my dad who still lives in the same house where I grew up. My kids love being with their grandpa and my wife and I enjoy the vibrant nature of the city. There is so much to see and do, and amazing restaurants and bars where we have good food, and enjoy a bottle of wine. I’ve lived in Lowell for the past 5 years and it’s been quite an experience for my fiance and I.

Although the house is outfitted with central ductwork, there aren’t sufficient vents in some of the rooms to achieve ideal comfort. There are areas of the house that would often feel overheated and sticky in the summer. The only way to target those rooms was to overcool the rest of the house. I love football, but I had only ever seen a game being played on TV.

I was visiting my grandma and grandpa, and Grandpa was excited when I told him I was a big football fan.

He offered to take me to Ralph Wilson Stadium for my first-ever NFL game. I was beyond excited and I couldn’t sleep a wink that night. Grandpa told me to make sure I had a heavy sweatshirt because it was going to be cold, but I shrugged it off. I had been to high school football games, and I was never that cold. He told me to remember he had warned me. The trip to Ralph Wilson Stadium was slow going because there were so many other football fans going to the stadium. We sat in traffic for almost two hours. I turned up the heat in the car and turned on the seat heater. I asked Grandpa if it was always this cold in Buffalo, NY. He said it was only this cold in the winter. I laughed and an hour later; we were taking our seats. Grandpa had his heavy sweatshirt on, and he had a blanket wrapped around his legs. I was shivering until I saw him pull a small space heater out of his bag. I thought it looked funny when he grabbed a gym bag, but when I saw the space heater, I was grateful. Without the space heater, my feet would have frozen, and I wouldn’t have enjoyed the game, which I did, even though our home team lost.

My mother is a gambler.

I mean, she loves to go to casinos and even if she has a quarter left in her pocket; she needs to spend it before going home. We had a hot week last week, and it was raining or humid nearly every day. It was April, but our weather report wasn’t making it look that way. My mother was tired of being in the house, and so was I. She talked me into taking her to Elgin, IL, and spending the day at Grand Victoria Casino. It was pouring rain when we left. Mom was winning, and getting her back home was not an option. When I realized it was almost dinnertime, mom told me not to worry. We stopped by the deli that was in the grand Victoria Casino and picked up some sandwiches to take home for my husband and dad. S[ending a hot, rainy day in the Grand Victoria Casino with my mom was better than I thought it would be. I was happy that it was cooling down to a normal temperature of forty by the time we got home, but it was still raining, and we were ready for some heat.

Friday was just like any other day.

I left the house for work around 7:30 in the morning.

I kissed my girlfriend before I left. She was still sleeping in the bed. At 8 months pregnant, she spends a lot of time resting in bed. He was going to personally come to the commercial business to finish the repair so I didn’t have to worry. Three hours later, my daughter was born. If I would have stayed to finish the repair, I would have missed everything.

Last week, I was so excited because we finally got some much-needed rain in Phoenix. And while some people who live here will complain about the rain, I welcomed the showers with open arms. Because there is no air conditioning in the wilderness, we must take extra precautions to make sure that our bodies don’t overheat. Some people love hiking in the brutally hot weather, but I would rather wait for cooler temperatures. Why risk my life to go hiking on a trail that can be accessed when the weather is much nicer outside? I would much rather stay home in my comfortable air conditioning on those days.
